You are essentially walking on the bottom, and can do a series of 3 (if I remember) jumps that semi keep you in the air for a bit. It’s a very off-putting mechanic, at least it is for me. One of the things I was really looking forward to, was the feeling of swimming around. Very weird design choice and feels a bit amateurish in execution. There appears to be some sort of vehicle/hand held that you can use for propulsion, this may change things. So far there hasn’t been any world changing ala Minecraft, when you mine things they mostly just release chips off that you pick up. In the case of more rare things, there are pockets of them that disappear as you mine them. In many ways this reminds me of “Miner Dig Deep” on Xbox, at least in terms of resource. The environment you start out in is pleasant enough, but nothing particularly spectacular. The game may open up the longer you play, I’ll check back when I have more time into it. At first glance, for me, it seems like something that isn’t going to hook me in the way minecraft did, there really isn’t that same sense of ‘I can do anything’. Here’s the swimming game you might want to keep an eye on : I’d put it in the ‘maybe I’ll buy it for 5 bucks’. Played Far Sky a bit more last night, and finding it hard to bother starting it up again, there are several game mechanics that really started to bug me.įish/hunger. You need to eat quite often, and it’s annoying. It’s made more annoying by 2 things, the “swimming” mechanic, and the placement of fish. Fish are placed at a really awkward point on the axis. You can’t hit them from standing on the bottom most of the time, and when you jump, you jump higher than they are…this get’s really old, really fast. The other option is using the spear gun, which burns through resources. That wouldn’t really be that big of a deal except for #2.ĭay/night cycle. Like minecraft, there is a day/night cycle, and the predators are active at night. Problem is, there is nothing else to do at night really, at least that I can figure out. In Minecraft, I could either go to bed, or work on a mine from inside my house. Unless I’m missing something, I end up just sitting in the house waiting for night to pass, or going out and trying to kill predators. With the base spear gun and spears, that’s fairly annoying as well. Takes quite a few base spears to kill 1 pred, and if you start bleeding more show up. Fairly easy to go through all your stash of spears trying to kill a couple preds, which then takes you most of the next day to refill. You can set up auto farm stations for minerals, but they deplete and start putting out nothing but rocks. Doesn’t feel like a particularly well tuned system in terms of annoyance factor, at least for me. Meh, cool idea, but can’t really recommend this one.Subnautica is an Action-Adventure, Horror-Survival, FPS, Exploration, and Single-player video game created and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
